Whitney Oaks is a planned golf course community tucked in the oak-studded folds of the former J. Parker Whitney estate. Mr Whitney was a second-generation rancher with a reputation throughout the early West for possessing remarkable business mind. He leveraged a high-yield breed of sheep from Australia into a fortune based on land development, mining, and international mercantile.
The Whitney Ranch grew to 18,000 acres, and near the middle was Spring Valley, with a small inner valley, called Brown's Valley. This is the site of the Whitney Oaks Golf Course.
The Whitney Ranch was acquired for development in the early 1960's. The first development was the Sunset-Whitney Country Club and surrounding residential developments. In the 1980's, planning began on a development of the northern portion of the ranch. This development, known as Stanford Ranch, encompassing the entire Spring Valley area, included nearly 10,000 homes along with retail and commercial projects.

The entrance to Whitney Oaks provides a transition from traditional residential settings to a park-like setting of dispersed residences and open spaces. The stone portals mark your passage into the community.

Whitney Oaks was designed as an exclusive community of nine gated neighborhoods built around the golf course and surrounded by open space. Click on the Neighborhoods button to see more about each neighborhood.
Whitney Oaks covers more than 1,000 acres, incorporating schools, open space, the public golf course, and three recreation facilities.

Whitney Oaks Golf Course was designed by professional golf legend Johnny Miller and Santa Rosa golf course architect Fred Bliss. The course is 6,800 yards of beautiful vistas, wildlife habitats, and challenging golf. After your round, the Whitney Oaks Clubhouse offers relaxation, including the Pyramid Bar and Grill.
Of utmost importance to the area are the superb elementary, middle, and high schools serving Whitney Oaks. Each of these schools scored over 800 on the state's Academic Performance Index, putting them in the top 10% of all schools statewide.
